L’Atalante: Bayonne’s Newest Cinematic Marvel

L’Atalante: Bayonne’s Newest Cinematic Marvel

Located in the French city of Bayonne, L’Atalante is an art house cinema that has been a hub of culture since its creation in 1990. It was designed by Farid Azib and built in 2021, and features a cinema, a bar/restaurant, and two apartments.

This modern building is situated on the right bank of the Adour River and is right below the Saint-Esprit bridge, which leads to the city center. It stands out with its prismatic projecting volumes and light prefabricated elements, while the facade is made up of large windows that create an architectural vision based on the expressionist tradition. Inside its walls, visitors can enjoy the breathtaking view of the docks, the bridge, and the historic city while taking part in screenings, debates, and other cultural events.

Casa GP: Elegant Materials & Tranquil Spaces

Casa GP: Elegant Materials & Tranquil Spaces

Casa GP, a two-story residence located in Mérida, Mexico, was designed in 2020 by OWN. Located in the Yucatán Golf Club “Country Club” in the Yucatán peninsula, this stunning property offers spectacular views of the golf course and the magnificent surrounding trees.

The project was born from a collaboration between friendly firms and follows a line of sustainable and bioclimatic design. The design takes advantage of the natural lighting, with floor-to-ceiling windows covered by a dynamic facade, and uses ailerons on the slab of the bedrooms to reduce the interior temperature. The palette of materials selected for the project (Concrete, Wood, Steel and Glass) creates an elegant and subtle environment that provides users with an atmosphere of tranquility and peace.

49 Greene Street: Celebrating the Character & Charm of SoHo

49 Greene Street: Celebrating the Character & Charm of SoHo

Nestled in the landmarked district of SoHo, New York, 49 Greene Street, a 6-story building built in 1886 by HJ. Howard, is an extant example of the mixed iron-and-masonry construction of the post-Civil war period. DXA Studio began work on the building in 2015, converting the interiors into three full-floor condominium units and a triplex Penthouse unit with a rooftop addition and private roof deck.

Our design process began like most of our other projects – studying the history of the area and the building itself – and we wanted to speak to SoHo’s past and the various movements that lent themselves to the creation of the area’s unique character and charm.

MA03 – Library House: A Book Lover’s Dream Home

MA03 – Library House: A Book Lover’s Dream Home

MA03 – Library House, a single-family house located in Sweden, was designed by architectural studio Fria Folket in 2022. It is situated on the edge of a sparse pine forest by the lake Voxsjön and is tailored specifically to the needs of a ceramicist and a lawyer. The couple wanted a house that would be capable of holding their extensive book collection while providing them with spaces for work and creative activity.

The house is organized around a library in the shape of a book gallery framing a small courtyard, composed of four gable-roof buildings that each solve its own part of the program. The four houses are organised in the order of the sun’s movement with the starting point of the house, i.e the entrance, in line with the starting point of the day, in the east.

The degree of privacy follows the same loop, from the most social spaces, hallway and kitchen, to the most private spaces at the end of the circle. The library functions as the core and bloodstream of the project, providing access to the courtyard from all parts of the house.
