Earthrise Studio: Where Craftsmanship Meets Wellbeing

Tucked within a historic shoe factory originally constructed in 1924, Studio McW has taken a light touch approach to create Earthrise Studio, a live-work space in East London for climate activists and filmmakers, Jack Harries and Alice Aedy.

True to Studio McW’s signature approach to craftsmanship and wellbeing, the office is finished with toxin-absorbing, matte clay walls and a custom black mild steel balustrade allows light to permeate the floor below. The project is designed to seamlessly balance rest and relaxation with the busy operations of Harries and Aedy’s media company, Earthrise.

Letná Apartment in Prague, Czech Republic is a multi-room apartment that was designed by Markéta Bromová Architekti in 2022, with industrial design style to create one big open space.

The apartment features a terrazzo floor, a green scalloped box to separate the private and residential parts, two built-in wardrobes, a brass-paneled kitchen island with a concrete countertop, a library, and a toilet for visitors.

ZROBIM architects have recently completed a two-story loft apartment located in the heart of Minsk, Belarus. This 120 m2 (130 sq. yd.) top-floor apartment is a perfect combination of industrial design and modern interior solutions.

The five-meter space of the main hall has been cleverly divided into two levels to increase the total area. This project was designed with an active lifestyle in mind, with the potential to transform from a bachelor apartment into a space suitable for family life. The industrial theme flows seamlessly into the design of the apartment and is complemented by the rough textures of brick and concrete and warm shades of natural wood.

Casa Bottega is a penthouse apartment located in Valletta, Malta, designed by Chris Briffa Architects in 2019.

The building functions as both a architectural practise and domicile, with the lower levels embracing the existing structure and features, and the penthouse being a contemporary counterpart. The penthouse sits on two pre-cast concrete beams, and provides expansive, liberating views of both harbours beyond. The living room doors pack up in a steel-unit, blurring the line between interior and exterior.

This house is a part of the Italian typology called “dei Ferrovieri” from 1921 and it is preserved and bound property by the Committee of Architectural Heritage. The main focus was on maintaining the internal spirit of the time, preserving the authentic wooden beams and the un-finished finishings to maintain the historic memory of the house. The dark coloring, sheet metal staircase and birch furniture and outfitting merge with the rest of the building and create an authentic and hospitable feel.
