About Batavia

Celebrating Two Decades of Design Innovation at BATAVIA

BATAVIA, a leading destination for contemporary and modern design in Madrid, proudly celebrates its 20th anniversary. The brand has unveiled its new flagship space within the historic Palacio de Santa Barbara. This launch not only marks a milestone but also introduces a fresh chapter in the showroom’s story.

A Harmonious Blend of History and Modernity

The ÁBATON architecture studio took charge, transforming the 400 sqm (approximately 4305.56 sq ft) space, once the stables of a mid-19th-century mansion, into a haven of modern serenity. As a nod to the hardware store that called this space home since 1906, ÁBATON preserved several of its original elements. The revamped area now radiates warmth and character, featuring original mosaic floors and solid stone support columns. Moreover, the architects introduced large, steel-framed openings to seamlessly connect the showroom’s diverse sections.

A New Chapter in Retail Experience

The flagship’s design gift section showcases ÁBATON’s ingenuity. They repurposed the hardware store’s shelving, enhancing it with subtle, sophisticated lighting. This section offers a thoughtfully curated collection, where cutting-edge brands mingle with local artisans and designers. This mix enriches BATAVIA’s eclectic selection of contemporary and vintage furniture, lighting, art, antiques, and vintage rugs, ensuring a unique shopping experience.

In essence, BATAVIA’s latest venture embodies a perfect marriage of past and present, offering visitors a rich, engaging journey through design history and innovation.
