About Moose Road Residence
Harmonizing Architecture with Nature
Nestled in a scenic area, this project offers views of “Eagle Rock,” a mountain ridge, and a vineyard-filled valley. The key challenge was framing these vistas while preserving every oak tree on the site. Consequently, the design includes three ‘fingers,’ each skillfully placed between trees and oriented towards one of the land formations.
Eco-Friendly Design on a Budget
To protect the trees, the house stands on steel stilts, avoiding any harm to the roots. Additionally, in a bid to cut costs and meet the clients’ sustainability goals, the construction utilized standard-sized sheet goods, such as unfinished plywood and OSB. This strategy significantly reduced waste. Furthermore, the project was completed on a tight budget, under $190 per square foot (about $2,045 per square meter).
A Seamless Blend with the Environment
Each design choice reflects a deep respect for the natural surroundings. Thus, the house not only showcases cost-effective, sustainable architecture but also blends seamlessly into the picturesque landscape. This project stands as a striking example of how architecture can complement and enhance the natural environment.
