Description

Gregory Phillips Architects has recently completed an extensive refurbishment, reconfiguration, and extension to a Grade II listed farmhouse and barn in Sevenoaks, Kent.

Gregory Phillips Architects was briefed by the client to update and modernize the historic property, including the barn, elements of which are believed to date back 500 years, whilst respecting its character and heritage.

The new, ultra-modern, glazed extension houses the kitchen, serving as the heart of the family home. It was designed by Gregory Phillips Architects to seamlessly blend indoor and outdoor living and to celebrate the idyllic rural setting of the property. Additionally, the extension connects two external spaces; the farmhouse and the barn, and complements two different styles of architecture, yet also stands alone as a bold sculptural form in its own right.

Gregory Phillips Architects also oversaw the interior design of the property. Internally, modern furnishings, a neutral palette, and natural materials create a contemporary and pared-back aesthetic and complement both the new and old-style buildings. This project illustrates how ultra-contemporary and historic architecture can enhance one another.
