About Lake Creek Residence

Architectural Harmony with Nature: The Hillside Haven

This 7,500-square-foot (697.5-square-meter) L-shaped home nestles into a steep hillside, facing Bald Mountain. It’s a design that honors the owners’ love for the Sun Valley’s wooded vistas. The structure’s materials link the house to its natural setting, while its modest footprint preserves the surrounding terrain.

Eco-Conscious Design for Sustainable Living

A slim profile maximizes passive ventilation and light, cutting down on artificial climate and lighting systems. The low gabled roof keeps the home discreet and cool in summer heat. Decks across various levels invite the family outdoors, ensuring year-round enjoyment of the landscape.

Blending Indoor Comfort with Rugged Outdoor Aesthetics

To the west, a three-story fireplace of board-formed concrete anchors the home, contrasting with steel and cedar exteriors. This outdoor hearth complements an indoor fireplace, with window walls opening to meld living space with nature.

The living area flows into a dining and kitchen space, opposite the entrance. Above lie the master and guest rooms, while the daylight basement houses bedrooms and a playroom. Steel accents and dark oak floors throughout the interior mesh with Tom Kundig’s custom furniture and hardware, uniting the home’s interior with tactile engagement. This Olson Kundig residence stands as an early adopter of the Kundig collection, weaving a thread of interaction throughout the home’s design.
