The Doors: Kohlrabi’s Elegant Apartment Transformation in Sopot
Sopot, Poland, a city celebrated for its scenic beaches and lively nightlife, plays host to an apartment elegantly reimagined by designer Kohlrabi. “The Doors” project was once a labyrinth of darkened rooms and closed doors. But, following its 2022 redesign, the space emanates an undeniable charm, with every element—from the widened windows to the bespoke joinery—meticulously curated to bathe the interior in light.
About The Doors
Discovering the Potential in Sopot’s Gem
Stepping into the Sopot apartment, we encountered a dimly-lit, compartmentalized space. Doors littered the area, either sealed shut, or as remnants of old passageways.
The Vision: Elegance and Openness
Investors envisioned a luminous, spacious, and refined setting. Thus, we began with a functional layout. We introduced new partitions, tore down certain walls, and strategically relocated the kitchen and bathroom. Additionally, we crafted ideas to repurpose the existing door openings.
The Transformation Begins
Our extensive renovation encompassed screed, heating, plaster, and window joinery. Tackling the natural light deficit, we replaced—and where feasible, expanded—windows with slender-profile joinery. Moreover, we broadened internal openings and incorporated fanlights above doors. This clever move illuminated previously shadowy corridors and bathrooms.
Attention to Detail: Crafting a Classic Ambiance
In response to client wishes, we sculpted a luminous, timeless environment. Our unique approach to materials added a touch of distinctiveness. We custom-designed various elements, from furniture to door joinery, ensuring each piece complemented the overall aesthetic. The meticulous stone finish, precise wood milling, painting, staining, and the brass patina hue all played pivotal roles.
Ultimately, the result was a harmonious yet absolutely captivating interior.
