About Yoshihiro Yamamoto Architects Atelier

Nestled at Mt. Katsuragi’s Foot

The ‘House on the Skirt of Mt. Katsuragi’ stands proudly at the mountain’s eastern base in Nara, Japan. Here, a family of three, along with their two cats, enjoys life under a striking triangular roof.

A Unique Blend of Spaces

The house cleverly divides and merges living spaces. On the first floor, the couple relishes a spacious living room, adorned with large windows and bookshelves. Meanwhile, the second floor houses their landing, bedroom, and bathroom. Conversely, the mother’s domain flips this arrangement. Her bedroom and bathroom occupy the first floor, while a cozy living room sits on the second. This ingenious layout fosters both independence and interconnectedness.

Furthermore, they share key areas like the entrance, laundry, and pantry. These shared spaces enhance the home’s communal feel.

Embracing Nature’s Rhythms

Outside, the home’s large windows frame a living painting of rice fields and Mt. Katsuragi. This ever-changing vista marks the passage of time, infusing the home with nature’s tranquility. In this idyllic setting, each day unfolds with the slow, rhythmic grace of the natural world.
