About Lowcountry High Performance

Nestled in the heart of Beaufort County, South Carolina, the “Lowcountry High Performance” project by Frederick + Frederick Architects is a masterful blend of luxury, sustainability, and resilience. This stunning home-base offers the perfect retreat to enjoy the pleasures of the lowcountry, from sailing and boating to fishing and golf.

Seamless Connection to Nature

Situated on a wooded lot overlooking the Beaufort River, the home maximizes its stunning views and natural light. Twelve-foot-wide (3.7-meter-wide), ten-foot-tall (3-meter-tall) glass sliding doors flank the great room, while another connects the kitchen to the screen porch, creating an abundance of daylighting throughout the space.

Exceptional Energy Efficiency

Designed with sustainability in mind, this home is poised to achieve near net-zero energy usage. The holistic approach starts with the strategic placement of the house, capturing breezes and utilizing shade and sun. Additionally, the home features a super-efficient geothermal heat pump, a 11.9kW solar panel array, a Tesla Powerwall battery, and occupancy sensors that activate the energy recovery ventilators (ERVs).

Resilient and Hurricane-Ready

In the hurricane-prone region of Beaufort, resilience is of the utmost importance. This elevated home is structurally designed and built to withstand 140 mph (225 km/h) winds and debris impact, with impact-resistant windows and roll-down hurricane screens protecting the large sliding doors. Raised above the base flood elevation, the living spaces are safeguarded from potential flooding, ensuring the home remains operational even during extended power outages, thanks to the solar panels and backup battery.

A Luxurious Retreat for the Whole Family

Whether hosting the entire family for the holidays or enjoying a quiet moment as the sun sets over the marsh and river, this Lowcountry High Performance home is the perfect sanctuary. With its stylish and resilient design, it offers the ultimate in coastal living, providing a luxurious and energy-efficient home-base to make the most of the region’s natural wonders.
