About Wakecrest Residence

Reimagining a 1962 Home: Shapes and Ocean Views

This 1962 home’s complete renovation revolves around basic architectonic shapes: triangle, square, and circle. Set against the ocean, it explores these forms’ fundamental relationships.

Upon entering, an axial motif leads to a tall, vaulted central living space. This serene area maintains a subtle dialogue with water throughout the design.

A glass entry canopy casts shimmering shadows onto concrete stepping stones (about 0.47 inches thick) over a reflecting pool. Symmetrical glass cubes over water illuminate the entry court, creating a dramatic arrival experience.

A Central Living Space: Heart of the Home

The main living area, with its triangular roof and open glazed ends, warmly connects the home’s side volumes. It acts as the inviting core of the house.

Visual links between the entry court and rear yard expand the space’s feel, connecting inside and outside. The central living space captures the ever-changing ocean and sky.

Expanding with Consideration: Concrete and Light

A concrete addition sensitively expands three bedroom suites to the west. It preserves the primary building volumes’ purity. Vertical wood board forming textures the exterior, coming alive in the afternoon and evening light.

Translucent glass boxes, floating above ground, echo the entry’s lit cubes. A simple cylindrical metal chimney stands as a vertical marker against the sky.
