About House on Hillside

The Sunlit Splendor of Potrero Hill

High on Potrero Hill’s North slope, this project boasts city views and abundant natural light. San Francisco’s typical narrow lots, surrounded by zero lot line properties, frame this urban canyon gem.

Architectural Mastery: Design and Structure

The innovative design pushes the perimeter walls beyond the structure, encapsulating the living spaces. Floating above the entry level, the living room floor seamlessly blends with vast glass expanses. This glass encircles a pivotal concrete column, supporting the upper tiers at the forefront. Common areas, like the kitchen and dining room, flow onto the West-facing deck. From here, an exterior stairway bridges the gap to the garden.

Optimal Lighting and Scenic Frames

Strategically placed openings at the house’s ends spotlight iconic city views. These openings also flood interiors with sunlight. The central lightwell, enveloping the main staircase, channels sunlight deep into the home’s heart, ensuring consistent natural illumination.

Rooms with a View: Living Quarters

Bedrooms reside on the upper levels, offering vistas of neighboring rooftops and the bay. Terraces, like the one adjoining the penthouse guest suite, bridge interior and city landscapes. Meanwhile, ground floor features like full-height sliding glass doors transform spaces like the home office and art room. They open onto a secluded patio and garden, providing tranquility in the urban hustle.
