About Casa Rancho Avándaro

A Mexican Hacienda-inspired Retreat: Combining Solidity, Purity, and Locally-sourced Materials

Inspired by the solidity and purity of Mexican haciendas, this retreat boasts a unique architectural concept that merges locally-sourced materials and patios. The project is composed of three main volumes, each enclosed by stone walls that act as interconnected partitions. Tiled, gable roofs supported by timber beams of varying heights were used to cater to a range of needs.

Living in Style and Comfort: Designing the Retreat for Entertaining Family and Friends

The living and dining room are located in the central structure, a double-height space that connects to a terrace with a jacuzzi in the front and a central patio at the back. The master bedroom, including a studio on a mezzanine floor, kitchen, and other service areas, are located in the wings. It was essential for the retreat to function as an independent home and simultaneously offer the possibility of entertaining family members and friends. A glass-enclosed annex building connected to the main house via a glass bridge across the patio provides privacy while still being a part of the overall program.

Bringing the Outdoors In: Developing the Interior Design with Local Flair

The interior design focuses on lighting, finishes, and local vegetation. The stonework has been left exposed indoors and combines with ironwork features, wood of varying hues (for the mezzanine level, furniture, and partition walls), and poured concrete (for the kitchen and bathroom flooring).

Harmonious Combination of Luxury, Aesthetic Appeal, and Functionality

The retreat is designed to be a welcoming, comfortable, and cozy space that combines classic hacienda-style elements in the exteriors with contemporary interior design. The project achieves a harmonious combination of luxury, aesthetic appeal, and functionality, making it an ideal place to relax and entertain guests.
