Description

This Mar Vista site had an outdated 1200sq ft house on it, which was torn down and replaced with a state-of-the-art 11 module, 2900sf home – a great example of what the Connect Homes’ prefab system can do. A carport/office structure placed at the front of the lot breaks down the project’s scale, with the main two-story volume of the house pushed towards the rear of the lot. Everything opens out onto a central courtyard, showing an innovative approach to more densely occupying Los Angeles lots, providing multiple outdoor space experiences. The house is Net Zero Enabled and has many green features such as greywater systems and a house-wide ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator).

Connect Homes was founded by architects committed to changing both the prefab and housing industries. The results are beautiful, modern green homes at a fraction of the time and cost of custom site-built construction. Built on their own assembly line in San Bernardino, CA, Connect Homes currently has a 2,000sf glass-and-steel house coming off their 9 station assembly line every 6 working days.

Connect Homes worked in conjunction with Juan Peck Foon for the conceptual design of the home. DWR provided furnishings and layout; David Weeks provided lighting; Swell Energy provided solar and energy management; Lutron provided smart home features; Grey for Green provided grey-water supply and management.

Like all Connect Homes, this house was completely described in BIM (Revit) down to the level of the screw. Connect Homes has adapted BIM for manufacturing purposes.
