About Nº1 Penthouse

This exclusive penthouse is located in one of Amsterdam’s most iconic streets, Vondelstraat, next to the Vondelpark. Its unique design takes space and volume to a new level, offering a variety of spaces, sequences, and visual relations. It is an exercise in creating a space of serenity, calmness, and connection.

Structured for Clarity and Comfort

The clarity of the structure organizes the space and celebrates noble materials. Every single detail is custom-made for this project, including two long low steel platforms that serve as coffee and tea tables from which the entire space and the skylight at the top of the central staircase can be admired. Nº1 is a jewel in the heart of the city, to be experienced day and night. The typical grey Amsterdam weather is made poetic by this house, and nights are sensual, elegant, cozy, and serene, with warm, indirect lighting.

A Central Connector for All

The home is structured in two floors connected by a prominent amphitheater facing a steel library and the skylight. This central piece is not just a physical connector but almost a piece of furniture, perfect for watching a movie, brainstorming, or enjoying a live concert on the stage in front of the stairs. This little volume contains a Japanese tree.

Living in Luxury

The second floor is the common living area. This big open space features a custom-made statuario marble kitchen, a carefully designed fireplace, a modular sofa, and a giant wooden bench under the panoramic window. The minimal sculptural off-white ceiling has three solid wooden beams that reveal the structural order of the roof. The first floor has three rooms, including a master bedroom with generous space and a luxurious marble bathroom with two showers and a Scandinavian sauna.
