About Bertola Apartment

A Harmonious Blend of History and Modernity

Q&A Studio’s vision for the Bertola Apartment in Turin, Italy, brings to life a space that harmoniously marries the building’s historical characteristics with contemporary design elements. The project, completed in 2023, is a testament to the careful preservation of art deco architectural features such as oak floors and meticulously detailed ceilings. At the same time, it introduces modern additions tailored to the lifestyle of a young couple immersed in the fashion industry.

Entering a World of Elegance and Functionality

Upon entering the apartment, guests are greeted by a custom-made black closet that elegantly connects to the kitchen, setting the tone for the sophisticated yet functional spaces ahead. The living and dining area, brightened by strategically placed large mirrors, offers a space where the young couple’s collection of design objects, spanning decades from the 20s to the 70s, takes center stage. Niches and shelves throughout the apartment serve not only as aesthetic elements but also as practical solutions for displaying personal treasures.

A Culinary and Visual Centerpiece

The heart of the day area is a multifunctional black cube that houses the kitchen and entrance. This central piece boasts ample storage, catering to practical needs while maintaining the apartment’s sleek design. Green-toned wall tiles and graniglia flooring (a type of terrazzo flooring) breathe calm into the home, creating a serene environment that is both classy and timeless.

Bathing in Timeless Elegance

The main bathroom encapsulates the apartment’s design philosophy, combining green tiles with custom-made boiserie to create a space that is at once modern and timeless. The inclusion of the original wooden floor parquet throughout the apartment adds warmth, ensuring the space feels welcoming and lived-in.

Through this thoughtful blend of preservation and innovation, Q&A Studio has created a space that is not only a reflection of the young couple’s personality but also a showcase for their design-oriented lifestyle, all while paying homage to the building’s art deco roots.
