About The Black House
A Distinctive Silhouette: The Black House by Lake Ammersee
Germany’s rural areas often exhibit urban sprawl, nondescript villages, and cookie-cutter detached homes. However, the eastern shore of Lake Ammersee, within Munich’s metropolitan region, presents an exception.
Breaking the Mold with Design
A small black house, distinguished by its carbonized facade, contrasts its surroundings. Nestled between an office building and a multi-family home, it asserts its independence, enriching the diverse architectural ensemble.
Mastering Topography and Space
The house’s genius lies in its utilization of the plot’s topography. Varied room heights stack seamlessly. Externally, terraces and roof shapes hint at this design. Internally, overlapping spaces offer diverse spatial experiences. A significant cutout connects the interior to a nearby forest, blurring inside-outside boundaries.
Minimalistic Spatial Allocation
The ground floor hosts a combined kitchen, living, and dining space. The basement features a bedroom and an open bathroom. Alignments with neighboring structures and the natural plot playfully connect the house to its surroundings, exemplified by pivot windows and roofing choices.
Purity in Materials and Design
The interiors adopt a minimalist approach. Untreated, oiled oak shapes the fixtures, while the panel heating system integrates into concrete surfaces, doubling as thermal storage. This design eliminated the need for intricate finishes, revealing stone patterns in sanded surfaces. Sandblasted concrete walls echo this raw elegance.
Sustainable and Chemical-Free Choices
Eschewing chemical treatments, the wooden facade gains durability from carbonization, making it water-resistant and fungus-proof. This house masterfully navigates design dichotomies, achieving a purist, clear aesthetic.
